QuickDecision is a process available on this coverage that allows us to make an underwriting decision in real time based on your answers to health questions in the application along with database information gathered. Since we are often able to receive everything we need through this process, we can deliver your answer sooner. We review your records, including medical information, driving record, and prescriptions, and may be able to let you know our underwriting decision by the end of the application, or if more details are needed.
While the QuickDecision process is only available on amounts up $2 Million for Level Term Life Insurance, you can apply for more coverage. If we need more information, a representative will call you to schedule a convenient time to answer questions or, if needed, have a medical professional visit you at our expense.

You may apply for anywhere between $100,000 and $2,000,000, in multiples of $10,000, if you are an AOA member under age 60 for the 20-year term and a resident of the United States (except territories) and Puerto Rico. You may also apply for coverage for your lawful spouse under age 60 for the 20-year term for $100,000 to $2,000,000 of coverage, in multiples of $10,000. Your spouse coverage amount cannot exceed yours.
If your spouse is also an AOA member, they are eligible for either member or dependent coverage, but not both. If both you and your spouse are covered as members, neither may insure the other as spouse and only one may insure any eligible children.

No. Your premium is expected to remain the same for the first 20 years.

Term Life Insurance is basic, no-frills protection. It’s a good way to get a large amount of life insurance to help protect your loved ones if something were to happen to you.
Level Term Life Insurance is protection you choose for a set time (the term). “Level” means your premium is expected to remain the same for the initial 10-year or 20-year term of the policy depending on whichever you select.
Either gives you the reassurance that if your loved ones unexpectedly lost you, they would at least have the financial help of the insurance coverage you have arranged.

Benefits are paid for death from any cause, at anytime, anywhere in the world except if it: (a) is due to or related to and/or occurs during suicide, an attempt at suicide or intentionally injuring himself or herself; and (b) occurs within 12 months from the issue date; whether such covered person is sane or insane. The only amount payable will be a return of applicable contributions.
The validity of any amount of your life insurance which has been inforce for one year during your lifetime will not be contested except for insurance eligibility provisions and non‑payment of premium contributions.
-
If you’re diagnosed by a physician as terminally ill with 12 months or fewer to live you may request an advance payment equal to 50% of your inforce coverage to be paid while you’re still alive for any use you wish. This benefit can be paid only once and will reduce your total life insurance benefit by the same amount. Premiums are not reduced. To qualify, a terminally ill insured must provide New York Life Insurance Company with proof of terminal illness and anticipated life expectancy (12 months or less), as well as any other necessary medical information requested. For additional details and limitations, please see the Certificate of Insurance. Please note that receipt of Accelerated Death Benefits may affect your eligibility for public assistance programs may be taxable. Prior to applying to receive such benefits, you should consult with the appropriate social services agency and seek the advice of a qualified tax advisor.

Yes, you can renew your coverage up to age 80. Once approved, your premium is expected, though not guaranteed, to remain the same for the first 20 years. At the end of this period, you may re‑apply for level term rates then in effect for a subsequent period, provided you’re under age 60 and otherwise eligible. If your application for a subsequent term of guaranteed rates is approved, your premium contribution will be based on your age, health and tobacco/ nicotine use at the time the subsequent term becomes effective and will be guaranteed for a new 20‑year period. If you are not approved for a subsequent term of guaranteed rates, or you do not apply for a subsequent term, coverage will continue on a non-guaranteed rate basis, under which premium contributions increase annually as you age.
-
Insurance will take effect on the date your application is approved by New York Life Insurance Company, provided the initial contribution is paid within 31 days after the date you are billed and any person to be insured is actively performing the normal activities of a person in good health of like age (NC residents: a person of like age) on the date of approval.
Anyone not performing their normal daily activities as required will not become insured until the day they are performing such activities, provided such date is within three months of the date insurance would have been effective, and the person is still eligible.
-
Yes! Your beneficiary is the person(s) last designated by you in writing and recorded by or on behalf of New York Life Insurance Company. You may change this beneficiary designation at any time by written request. You are the automatic beneficiary for dependent insurance as described in the Certificate of Insurance. If you wish to name another beneficiary for spouse insurance, contact the administrator for the applicable forms. You may select any person, persons, trust or other legal entity as your beneficiary. If, at the time of your death, there are no surviving beneficiaries, benefits will be paid to the executor or administrator of your estate, or at the option of New York Life Insurance Company, to the surviving relatives in the following order of survival: spouse; children equally; parents equally; or brothers and sisters equally.
-
Coverage will end when the insured person reaches age 80 (age 18 for children, age 24 for children who are full-time students) or if any of these conditions are met: Premium contributions are not paid when due; the group policy is terminated or modified to end insurance for the group of insureds to which you belong; you request to terminate insurance.
In addition, dependent coverage will terminate when your coverage ends, or when the dependent eligibility requirements are no longer being met. Upon your death, dependent insurance inforce will continue if the available conversion right has not been exercised and premiums are paid.
-
Yes! You are under no obligation today.
If you are not completely satisfied with the terms of your Certificate of Insurance, you may return it without claim within 30 days. Your coverage will be invalidated, and you will receive a full refund – no questions asked!
-
You can convert insurance that ends to an individual policy, without giving New York Life Insurance Company medical evidence of insurability, provided certain conditions are met. A conversion right is available if insurance ends for any reason except non‑payment of premiums or you requesting to end insurance. However, if insurance ends because the policy terminates or changes for the group of insureds to which you belong, a conversion right is only available if you have been continuously insured under the policy for at least five years. Consult your Certificate of Insurance for complete details.
-
Although your employer may offer life insurance coverage, it might not be enough to help provide for the many financial obligations your family would face on their own were they to lose you. Plus, unlike most employer-provided life insurance, this coverage is portable, meaning it can stay with you even if you change jobs (subject to U.S. government regulations on restricted nations and Group Policy terms governing termination of coverage).
-
Our member-only rates are based on a history of favorable claims experience with AOA members. You can also take advantage of 20% savings with a premium credit. Although future credits are dependent upon actual claims experience and cannot be promised or guaranteed, the Program has been granting premium credits for years.
-
Only after you are approved. You’ll then receive a premium notice along with your Certificate of Insurance.
-
You can insure all unmarried, dependent children from age 15 days to age 23 (age 25 if a full-time student).

When program experience has been good New York Life Insurance Company will periodically return excess premiums in the form of dividends to the AOA as the policyholder. The AOA will retain these dividends in a Dividend on Deposit Account with New York Life. The AOA will in turn periodically make these dividends available through premium credits to existing insureds in the programs which generated the dividends. Sufficient reserves will be retained by the AOA in the Dividend on Deposit Account to cover administrative and marketing costs generated by the New York Life Insurance Programs sponsored by the AOA. Dividends are not guaranteed. These programs are administered together to take advantage of the savings resulting from this integrated approach.
Administrative expenses incurred by the AOA to provide the valuable membership benefits resulting from these sponsored insurance programs are reimbursed from available program dividends. New York Life may also, out of premium, pay a reasonable fee to the AOA for making the AOA assets available to it to promote these programs to the membership. These assets include the AOA Intellectual Property Rights and mailing lists of eligible members. -
